Option for Lone Travellers
Is it possible for a middle-class, middle-income female retiree to while away the small hours in a night-club by herself? Can she tour the boites of Montmartre on her own? Can she swing in a souk in Marakeesh. There is no doubt she could but whether or not she would consider it feasible or even remotely enjoyable is another matter.
What then are the options for a lone female no longer in the first flush of youth? If you fall into such a category and enjoy holidays but are reluctant to go on your own. Take a long, hard look at yourself and take stock. What are your interests? Are you a cultural bird, an outdoor, active, bird or just a pleasure-seeking and"chill-out bird'.
Idle holidays on a beach on one's own are definitely out. There is nothing more sad than a woman sitting night after night alone at a table in a crowded restaurant. No, one must be either on the move-that is to say on a moving object or involved with a group in activity.
Are you a member of NADFAS, the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Society? This organisation devoted to the promotion of cultural interest and divided into local groups over the country hold monthly lectures and also arrange outings and excursions. There are tours arranged for world-wide trips of great interest. They are extremely well-organised and these are accompanied not only by a qualified lecturer but by a"nanny' who sees to the comfort of all and ensures smooth running of the trip. Cruises are a strong possibility and advice on how to have the best time on board will be given in the next article.
